Osodieme adjudged Nigeria’s Best First Lady

WIFE of Anambra State Governor and Founder of Caring Family Enhancement (CAFÉ) initiative, Dr. Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano has won the 2020 edition of Sun Newspaper’s Best First Lady in Nigeria award.

Mrs. Obiano was conferred with the prestigious prize during the annual Sun Awards held in Lagos over the weekend during which other Nigerians that distinguished themselves in various sectors were also honoured.

A release issued by the organisers of the prize said the governor’s wife, who is fondly known as Osodieme among her ndi Anambra, was selected ahead of other Nigerian First Ladies, in recognition of her exemplary service to humanity – particularly the downtrodden in Anambra State, under the auspices of her pet non-governmental ogranisation CAFÉ which had received numerous mational and international accolades.

The release further eulogised Osodieme’s efforts in mobilising Anambra women to play their roles in political and socio-economic development of the state as not only legendary but indeed taking government to the grassroots in a frequency that had never been deployed in the state before Gov. Willie Obiano’s assumed the mantle of governance.

According to the release, the governor’s wife has by so doing proved the saying that behind any successful leader is a supportive wife.

“Dr. Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano has reinvented the office of the First Lady in Nigeria. She did this by deploying the goodwill attracted by Caring Family Enhancement (CAFÉ) initiative, from local and global partners, to service delivery and dividend of good governance in Anambra State. She also mobilises the women to ensure they contribute their quota to development. We selected her because she ranks higher above other governor’s wives in every parameter or benchmark of social mobilization,” the release reads in part.

It will be recalled that Mrs Obiano is the first governor’s wife to introduce systematic, intercative annual tour of all the 21 local government areas in Anambra State and also the annual August Mothers Summit in which resource persons are drawn for near and far to take women and less privileged ones on various skill acquisition programmes.
