Anambra NUJ holds media round table, honours Mmaduka, 3 journalists

NIGERIA Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, led by Sir. Emmanuel Ifesinachi, on Saturday, held Anambra Media Round Table, where three journalists won the maiden Prof. Chinyere Okunna Prize  for Ethical Journalism, while  Dr. Godwin Maduka bagged the Man of the year Award.

  Mr. David Eleke of This Day Newspaper, won the first position, while  the first runner up  is Mr. Gabriel Alonta of Orient Daily Newspaper and second runner up, Mr. Uche Ndeke of Radio Nigeria

   In his speech,  Sir. Emmanuel Ifesinachi commended the winners for distinguishing themselves in journalism practice, urging other journalists to always maintain ethics and professionalism in their reports.

  Sir. Ifesinachi also said the achievements of Dr. Maduka in his community attracted the award.

  While addressing pressmen , Dr. Maduka expressed  happiness on the recognition given to him.

  In an interview, Prof. Chinyere Okunna encouraged other journalists to participate in next year’s competition .

  The winner and overall best journalist of the year, Mr David Ndeke said he felt elated and in short of words to express his gratitude noting that he dedicated his award of one million naira to his dear wife whom he said has been supportive throughout the journey. He thanked Prof. Chinyere Okunna for the initiative along side of Dr. Maduka for declaration of the award.

  Chairman of the panel set for the competition and MD/CEO of Anambra Newspapers and Printing Corporation, Sir Chuka Nnabuife said that three journalists out of seventeen registered candidates got the ethical standard of investigative journalism, adding that there will be submission of original copies and links of articles written by journalists in the next competition.

  “It will be a story with good language, strictly on raw work not name withheld or according to someone. It will be relevant to the society. We will also know the writer’s opinion. There should be orderliness of words used,” he said.
