In Nri, Umunri marks Iguaro

THE 1022nd Iguaro Ndigbo was recently held at the palace of Eze Nri, Eze Obidiegwu Onyesoh, in Anaocha LGA, Anambra State.

  The ceremony was organised in line with all the COVID-19 protocols and graced by diginitaries across the federation.

In his welcome address, Eze Obidiegwu Onyesoh who was ably represented by the Regent, Prince Ikenna Onyesoh, said that the cultural festival was normally celebrated at the Igbo ancestral homeland of Nri, every February, to mark the beginning of a new year in Igbo land before the next planting season, adding that from the ages past, Nri has kept faith in protecting Igbo culture and tradition, human dignity and believes strongly in equity, justice and peace.

Eze Onyesoh also congratulated the Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Willie Obiano for his landmark achievements in providing security, infrastructural development and enhanced economic base of the state.

He prayed for a peaceful gubernatorial election in the state.

“Today is the prerogative of Eze Nri through which I am the Regent and being that Eze Nri is on a long travel. I am doing what tradition entails. So it is the prerogative of Nri to say that the new year of Ndigbo has started. We are expecting great things. We are expecting new things and I want to use this opportunity to tell the youths that as we are now approaching the next gubernatorial election, I expect them to be in their best behaviours while they make wise decisions”

“Ndigbo will be fine. I urge everyone to maintain peace and stay steadfast in our prayers. The yam we have shared today will yield huge farm products during the next harvest season and bring favourable things in our families, state, South East and Nigeria in general”.

He further prayed for good health, prosperity, love and peace among Igbo nation.

Speaking to the newsmen, the head of the kindred lineage of Nrinwelana, Emeka Onyesoh  said that in accordance with the annual celebration, Eze Nri has celebrated the 1022nd Iguaro Ndigbo and charged all indigenes of Nri and Igbo at large to be good citizens.

Present at the event were the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, George Obiozor,  represented by  the National Publicity Secretary of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chiedozie Ogbonnaya, Njikoka Umunri Worldwide, Nze na Ozo Association of Igbo land, Prestigious Iyom Society, among others.
