NEMA begins distribution of relief materials in Imo

NATIONAL Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has flagged off distribution of relief materials to victims of various 2020 disasters in the affected areas in Imo State.

  In his address at the flag off ceremony, the director general of the agency, Air Vice Marshal Muhammadu Muhamed (rtd), who was represented by the NEMA helmsman covering Imo and Abia State operations, Mr. Evans Ugo said that it was his pleasure to welcome all the participants on behalf of his boss, the director general of the agency, Alhaji Muhammed.

 The areas covered by their exercise include Ohaji/Egbema, Obowo, Ihitte Uboma, Oguta, Isiala Mbano, Mbaitoli, Ikeduru and Owerri West Local Government Areas.

 You may recall the devastating flood and wind storm that ravaged some areas in Imo State within the period under review in the year 2020, the menace left many people homeless and destroyed properties and economic trees.

 The DG said that the report of the devastation came to his notice through community leaders, House members representing those local government areas. He said that without wasting time, his agency quickly visited those areas to access the level of devastation. Mr. Evans on behalf of the DG commiserated with the affected area and victims there-in. He appealed to them to cushion the affect of the devastation with these relief materials being distributed by the NEMA.

The relief materials so far distributed include, rice, mosquito nets, foam, bags of cement, roofing sheets, zinc nail, 3inches nail, ceiling board and other items worth millions of naira.

 On that note, he flagged off the distribution exercise at the headquarters of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government in Mahu, Egbema of Imo State.
