Henry urges Man City to sign Haaland, Mbappe

BORUSSIA Dortmund star, Erling Haaland and PSG’s Klyian Mbappe are two of the best young players in the world. Thierry Henry believes that Manchester City should not only aim to sign Erling Haaland but Kylian Mbappe as well.

City have made a new centre forward their top priority this coming summer, with no decision yet made on the future of Sergio Aguero, who is out of contract at the end of the season, and the inconsistent form of Gabriel Jesus.

Haaland has emerged as one of the most highly sought-after players in Europe after a sensational season with Borusssia Dortmund and has attracted interest from both Manchester clubs, as MEN Sport understands that Manchester United have identified the Norwegian as their top striker target.

Mbappe, whose current deal at Paris Saint-Germain is set to expire in 2022, has also been linked.

Discussing the future of the pair, Jamie Carragher suggested City should sign the Dortmund striker before Henry insisted they should aim for both.

“I think Man City should go for Haaland,” Carragher said on Sky Sports. Henry replied: “If I’m Man City, I’d go for both because I think they might handle that.

“No, seriously, the truth: I think they’re different strikers. What happened to playing with two strikers?” Henry also quashed any suggestion that Haaland wouldn’t be able to adapt to Manchester City’s style of football.

Haaland has scored 47 goals in 48 matches for Dortmund and Henry believes that Guardiola could teach the 20-year-old to adapt to his philosophy of football despite his selfish streak in front of goal.

“I think Pep has the capacity to make anyone adapt to how he wants to play, especially if he gets a guy young,” Henry said about Haaland on Sky Sports.

“Sometimes if you get a guy who’s 30, or 31, or has been playing a long time in a certain way, it’s very difficult to change him. But if you get a guy early, and he understands that he can win playing a certain way, that he can be successful, it’s very important when a player feels that.

“We’re talking about a guy we think can adapt but you can never be too sure. Aguero, sometimes, not only this year and we’re talking about one of the best players ever in this league and I admire him so much, but quite often, Pep left him out in some big games for whatever reason, he left him out so many times.

“I remember a game we did at Old Trafford, it was snowing and they won 2-0, Pep has a certain view of how he likes his team to play and if you’re not going to fit into that, it will be the team first. Can those guys adapt to that? Of course, they can.”
