Skills acquisition, way out of unemployment, poverty – Chinweze

IN HIS resolve to support the agenda of Gov. Willie Obiano’s policy in creating employment opportunities through skill acquisitions, the Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, Patrick Emeka Chinweze has embarked on skill acquisition program for youths of the area.

 The event which held at the local government secretariat, featured presentation of brand new sewing machines for six youths drawn from six communities of the area.

 Addessing the recipients, the chairman, who underscored the importance of skill acquisition in the fight against unemployment and general poverty in the local government area and the nation at large, stressed that skills acquisition was the way out of unemployment and acute poverty currently facing the country.

 According to the local government helmsman, “this is the first stage of the empowerment scheme aimed at getting youths off the street by equipping them with necessary skills that would help them to be self- reliant and also train others to be so.

 He further explained that the beneficiaries were given intensive training in tailoring skills after which they received sewing machines,  financial assistance and other materials to help them improve in their area of specialisation that would better their lots.

 Since inception of his administration, he has ensured that he redirects the minds of youths towards skill acquisition and has given them starter-packs to enable them to stand on their own.

 Reiterating his decision to empower only women in his first step, he noted that ‘the best way to help any family is to help them acquire skills and I am glad that my administration is going in that direction, in supporting the agenda of Willie Obiano’s policy in creating employment opportunities, through skills acquisitions.

 “Anything that helps to empower women is good for us because when you empower a woman you have empowered the family”.

 While promising to set up more skills acquisition programme to train youths in catering, tailoring/fashion design, soap making, bead making, fish/poultry farming, hair dressing, among others, he urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the skills and the equipment given to them to be good ambassadors of the local government.

 In appreciation, one of the receipients, Oluchi Nwoye commended the chairman and his team for embarking on such programs for the youths of the local government area and pledged to use the knowledge she got to develop herself, assist her family as well as training others.

 Speaking on the seven years anniversary of Governor Willie Obiano, the chairman extolled the governor in his contributions to the development of Anambra.

  According to him, the governor did marvelously well in transforming all the sectors of the economy. He described as unprecedented what the governor did in health sector, ASHIA, road networks among others.

 He also lauded the construction of Anambra International Cargo Airport at Umueri which will soon commence operation, the International Conference Center (ICC), Awka City Stadium among other legacy projects which Governor Obiano handled with seven years in office. “Indeed Obiano is extraordinary. He has milk of human kindness in him,” he noted.

  Mr. Chinweze equally maintained that the governor’s relationship with workers of the state is second to none, that he pays salaries as and when due with other beautiful packages. “ I thumb up for him and pray that somebody like him will take over the state at the expiration of his tenure.”
