NIPOST to become JAMB, NIMC, Int’l passport, others’ registration centres

POSTMASTER General/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Postal Service  (NIPOST), Dr Ismail Adebayo Adewusi said that NIPOST’s Computer Based Centres will handle JAMB registration and examination , other online registrations like NIMC,  international passport, drivers’ license and recruitments.

  Dr Adewusi ,who said that it has become necessary “considering the crucial role which communication plays in all facets of human endeavour, noted that ” for any society to advance economically, especially in this emerging global village, there must be in place a strong communication system. An efficient communication system is the engine of positive economic growth.

  “It is in recognition of this reality that NIPOST management encourages individuals, communities and corporate bodies that have the wherewithal to collaborate with it, in providing infrastructures in which  postal services could be offered . This is one of the surest ways Nigeria could achieve the Universal Postal Union (UPU) standard of one Post Office to about 6,000 inhabitants, and hereby bring postal services closer to the people”

  He said that the digital CBT centre and mini post office would have far-reaching positive effects on the socioeconomic development of the  community and the state in general .” The centre will be equipped to handle JAMB registration and examination, other online registration like NIMC”, international passport, drivers’ license and recruitments.

  “In recognition of this reality, NIPOST encourages individuals, communities and corporate bodies that have the wherewithal to collaborate with it in providing infrastructures to offer postal services.

  Dr Adewusi said that the goal of NIPOST was to establish no fewer than 10, 000 post offices across the country, adding that there were close to 4000 post offices at the moment.

  The NIPOST Postmaster General /CEO said that NIPOST was committed to the federal government’s agenda of financial inclusion and of making e-government services available in areas that were either underserved or not served.

  He said that the smart post office would enable NIPOST to provide financial services which include agency banking and others.

  According to him, the goal of the organisation was to have a post office that would be a one-stop-shop for any business that one aspired for.

  Calling for private partnership, he thanked ,) Kenechukwu Mba, for single-handedly, building and donating a Computer Based Test Centre in Enugu,  as part of his contribution to the well-being of his people and at no cost to the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).

  To the members of the public, Dr Adewusi said that the authentication of their receipts and documents at all times with adhesive postage stamps obtained from the Post Office is important and matter of law. 

  South East Zonal Manager, NIPOST, Mr Friday Aba, said that the computer based centre was the first of its kind in the federation .

  He urged people to make good use of it, saying that the centre would provide the needed services.
