Victims of Ibadan market fire seek assistance

ABOUT 45 traders affected by another fire disaster at Bodija Plank Market have called on government and well-meaning Nigerians to assist them in order to recover the losses they incurred

   Recounting their losses, the traders said property worth N200 million was destroyed during the inferno.

Some of the affected traders, including the Chairman of Zone 7, where the fire occurred, Owoyemi Ogunrin said about 22 shops were affected by the inferno.

Alhaji Ogunrin told newsmen on Tuesday, that no one could explain the cause of the incident. “We cannot say the cause of the incident, but 22 shops have been destroyed. We have more than 40 people who have property here

“We are begging God to replenish us. We are calling on well-spirited Nigerians and the government to assist us. We do not know where to start.”

The Chairman of Ibadan Plank Sellers Association, Elder Gbenga Gbaroye appealed to the government to support the victims.

Speaking in the same vein, the Babaloja Plank Market Chief, Alhaji Sulaimon Inaolaji said the cause of the fire was not electrical as there was no power supply when the incident occurred.

Inaolaji said the fire was put out due to the timely intervention of Oyo State fire service.

The Babaloja of Oyo State, Chief Asiwaju Yekeen Abass said details of the fire disaster and the damage done would be communicated to the government.
