Tackling insecurity, ensuring continuity my goal – Umeorji

ONE of the leading aspirants for the forthcoming November 6 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, under the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and federal lawmaker representing Aguata Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Chukwuma Umeoji, has pledged that he would continue from where Governor Willie Obiano would stop to provide democracy dividends and security of lives and property of the residents and people of the state if he emerged winner of the governorship election.

Umeoji made the pledge while playing host to the APGA ward chairmen and secretaries in the state at his party house, opposite Anambra State Government House, Awka.

While urging the APGA ward leaders to continue to work relentlessly for the party, the federal lawmaker expressed assurance of his and APGA’s victory in the November poll and noted that Governor Obiano’s administration had performed in all spheres of the state economy hence the people’s dire desire to succeed him and continue from where he stopped.

“Governor Obiano is doing well. That is why I want to succeed him. If he is not doing well, you would have not seen any person today in APGA, aspiring to succeed him. Second, this is why everybody is struggling to take his place. And I, Chukwuma, should succeed Akpokuedike”, he said.

Umeoji, who said that leadership comes from heaven, pointed out that it is God that makes a King, stressing that the affairs of the November election will be directed by God, not a man.

He argued that his numerous projects across his Aguata Constituency, pedigree and long years of political experience working in the executive and legislative arms of government give him a clear edge over his co-aspirants, stressing that he had served APGA and worked in various capacities with Governor Obiano during his first and second tenures.

“In Akpokudike’s first tenure, I was his campaign coordinator in Aguata in which we delivered APGA in the election. This second tenure, I was also the coordinator and we also delivered our party in the election. I served Akpokudike in various capacities as a senior special assistant on grassroots mobilisation; member, vigilante recruitment board – two years plus; member, land acquisition committee for over two years; member, board on rural health – more two years; and member, joint account committee – more two years.

“I have worked in the executive and legislative arms of government. So, I am more qualified than any other person.

“Again, I have over 90 verifiable projects across my local government. In terms of human capital development, my achievement is unparalleled – we invest in human capital”, he said.

While urging the people to vote their conscience in the primary election and avoid engaging in party politics with hatred and animosity, Umeoji called for reduction of tension in the party, adding that God as the king-maker has before today, ordained the next governor of the state who will heed to the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
