Anambra Speaker urges fathers to devote time to families, church



SPEAKER, Anambra State House of Assembly, Uchenna Okafor has called on all fathers to devote time to their families and to the church.

   He made this call at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Awka, in commemoration of the Father’s Day celebration at the church.

The Speaker thanked God for sustaining some fathers who had currently attained 70 and above in good health.

“I pray for us, the young fathers to be alive in good health to train our children well.I encourage us all to be models to our children, as well as show great interest in the family and in the church,” he said.

Earlier in his homily, the officiating priest, Rev. Fr. Blaise Ejike enjoined every father to emulate St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus Christ, for his humility and obedience to the word of God.

He praised them for the good works they execute in their various families, church and the society at large.

“You are the pillar of the family, just as Jesus is the pillar of the Church; so abide in the Lord for strength and guidance.

“Teach your children the value of money and hard work for them to be better persons in the society.

“Abide by the word of God according to the Gospel of John 15:1-8, to bear good fruits,” Fr Ejike said.

He thanked the Speaker and everyone for their magnanimous support toward the fathers and the church. President of the Catholic Men’s Association, St. Thomas Aquinas parish, Sir Patrick Muo congratulated every father that had attained 70 years and above.

He encouraged the younger fathers to always participate in the activities of organisation and serve God diligently with their youthful strength.There was a thanksgiving procession of all the fathers in the church.
