THE Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport was test-runned on 30th of April 2021. The initiative for the airport was born out of the need to create massive jobs and small-scale businesses which will make for a quantum jump in the state’s internally generated revenue [IGR] for sustainable development to raise the living standard of the masses. Chief executives, who think out of the box, explore avenues to augment the ever dwindling statutory allocations to execute the capital and recurrent appropriations in the annual budgets.
For conceptualising an airport, Governor Willie Obiano has laid a formidable foundation for quantum IGR for his successor. No doubt, the largely uninformed ndi Anambra would be raising dust over the project while expecting to see massive road rehabilitation in their communities. On this score, it is pertinent to educate them that the airport project is a creative proactive step because of the potential quantum leap in the IGR.
The expected quantum of the IGR might not be forthcoming before Governor Obiano leaves the saddle of power in the beginning of 2022, but the successor will leverage on it to launch Anambra State on a faster development trajectory.
It is intersting that under Obiano, IGR has risen remarkably.
Anambra Airport will further increase that and create an industrialisation process that will give every sector in the state an export potential.
