AS the current spate of insecurity in Nigeria spreads across the federation, Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom yesterday said the state was under police siege.

Gov. Emmanuel made the assertion in Uyo while addressing the people on proliferation of arms into the state.

According to him, some people wearing fake army uniforms were arrested with 18 AK-14 assault rifles.

They governor regretted that even though the fake soldiers who were obviously infiltrating the state with sinister motives were arrested, they were quickly released on the orders of the commissioner of police in the state through ERS. But before the order came, some of those that arrested the invaders had mobile telephone set with which they recorded what happened.

Udom also condemned what he called “partisanship” by the commissioner of police.

He, therefore, vowed to resist any attempt by the police anyone to cause mayhem in Akwa Ibom.

The governor equally explained the hurried release of the invaders as clear demonstration of the powers that be to see that election does not hold in the state the same day as other states during the 2023 general election.

Hence, Udom urged the people to blame to hold police responsible for any breakdown of law and order in the state, saying that “all these are happening because the entire security apparatus in the country is in the pocket of one political party.”
