Anambra NUJ holds prayer conference

NIGERIA Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council last week, held a prayer conference to mark the beginning of the year.

The event, which held at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, Awka, featured journalists from different media organisations in the state.

The guest preacher, Pastor Joseph Nwabueze of the Deeper Love Assembly, Awka, while appreciating the leaders of the council for the privilege given to him to minister the word of God among journalists, added that the greatest weapon of journalism is truthfulness just as military and paramilitary use firearms.

Pastor Nwabueze, who explained that Jesus was a journalist per excellent, noted that nothing can set an institution, organisation, society or nation free than truth. “The country is weeping because no one can save the masses. Once the truth is said, the masses will be set free.  Truth is not just a virtue or value but a person. I want to encourage you if you want to go far in journalism, you should know about Jesus.

The only thing that will make someone to buy a newspaper is because he wants to find the truth. Truth will preserve journalism and project it to be part of nation building”, he said.

Pastor Nwabueze also said that when truth transforms journalism, government will value the pressmen and make journalism the empire of the nation or society. He prayed for prosperity in their profession even as they endeavor to follow the foot prints of God especially in the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state. He prayed God to give the executives the grace to accomplish the vision of the council.

 The chairman of council, Emmanuel Ifesinachi explained that when the executive came in 2015, they made it  a duty to be  having first congress of every year with prayer to dedicate and commit the union in the hands of God. “Today’s congress happened to be the first congress this year.  It’s the usual thing we normally do and today’s own is special because we have more than the usual number we used to have.

 Ifesinachi, however, advised journalist to position themselves properly to make input into this process of the upcoming guber election, urging them to be objective as well as make truth their watchword.
