Association of Anambra students holds picnic, welfare day

ASSOCIATION of Anambra State Students in Nigeria and Diaspora (AASSNID) of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ire Ife, Osun State,  Sunday, held its annual Picnic and Welfare Day. The event, which held at the Golden Jubilee Garden of the university featured the Coordinator of the Federation of Igbo states’ students, Kalu Agada, Chairman of the Igbo Students President Forum, Austin Abaga, President of the Abia State Students, David Gas, erstwhile President of Ijebu and Remo Students Association, Abiodun Adesanya and President of the National Association of Ogun State Students, Ajayi Oluwafemi among other guests.

  Speaking at the event, the president of AASSNID, Igwe Valentine urged all members of the association to always show interest and participate actively in the activities of the association. “We have just one state, Anambra, and we should always endeavor to show the spirit of brotherhood and together”, he admonished.

 Igwe, who used the medium to wish his fellow students success in their forthcoming examinations,  appreciated sponsors of the events; Anambra State Association World-wide under the chairmanship of Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze and the founder of MUJ App, Lady Ogoamaka Akigwe.

 He also appreciated all participants and the kind gestures of Chief Chudi Asidianya and AASSNID alumni.

 Other speakers at the event included the staff adviser of the student body, Simeon Ezekpo of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Prof. Shoniran of the Department of Chemistry, who encouraged the students to have self-dignity, working on their personality as good ambassadors of Igboland.

 Prof. Shoniran, who is an intimate friend of the association also spoke on “Seven Steps of Self-Awareness”.

 High points of the event included distribution of palliatives (rice, spaghetti, milk, tomato paste, writing materials etc) to over 100 members of the association, games, sports, intellectual discourse.
