Police declare manhunt for criminals that set Enugu INEC ablaze

The Enugu State Police Command has vowed to hunt down criminals who set part of the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Enugu, ablaze.

In a release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Enugu, Mr. Daniel Ndukwe, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, a full scale investigation has been launched to fish out the perpetrators of the act with a firm promise that they will face the full wrath of the law if fished out.

CP Aliyu, according to the release, enjoined law abiding citizens in the state to remain vigilant and promptly volunteer useful information that will help the police in the investigation.

The text read in full: “Yet to be identified armed miscreants on the 16/05/2021 at about 2030hrs attempted to set the Enugu headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ablaze but were stiffly resisted by the Joint Security Operatives who swiftly mobilised to the scene. 

“The state fire service personnel who promptly responded to the call put across to them helped in quenching the fire already set on four vehicles and cushions within the office premises

” The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, who immediately raced to the scene alongside heads of other security agencies in the state ordered placement of adequate security within the precinct of the office and launch of full scale investigation to unravel the mystery behind the act as well as fishing out the assailants”
