Anambra Elders and Stakeholders Forum for Good Leadership have thrown its weight behind the resolution to ban open grazing in the region.

The forum, arising from an emergency meeting during the week lauded the governors for restating their decision on open grazing and urged the federal government to support their 10- point resolution.

A statement made available to National Light and signed by the National President of the forum, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, states that  “it is a welcome development that South East met and arrived at a milestone decision. It is also a call to federal government to arise to its responsibilities of ensuring maximum security of lives and property of the citizenry. We are totally in support of the ten point resolution and hope that the implementation will douse the tension and the rising implosion in the South East and South South.

“ We are equally concerned at economic implication and hardship the rampaging herdsmen have brought to Southern Nigeria in particular. Let open grazing stop. It is archaic. The government should introduce a modern system of animal husbandry to avoid the menace of herders, loss of lives and farm crops.

“We advise the federal government to ensure proper activation of our air and seaports to provide employment to the youths.

The forum commended Gov. Willie Obiano for the landmark airport project. They noted that the project has provided employment for many youths who have started airport shuttle services.

“We enjoin him to ensure speedy completion of feeder roads within the area as well as major roads in the state.
