Anambra tops S’East in road generated revenue

By Daniel Obagha

Chairman of Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS), David Nzekwu, has rated Anambra as number one in terms of road tax in South Eastern Nigeria.

Dr. Nzekwu said this in his office at Awka when new Anambra Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi, paid him a familiarisation visit

According to him, the feat is a reward to government’s investment in the transport sector, particularly road infrastructure.

“Anambra State is now the number one in terms of road tax in the whole of South Eastern Nigeria.I am optimistic that the cordial relationship should continue,”

Nzekwu also briefed the new sector commander on the cordial relationship and synergy that had existed between the state command of FRSC and AIRS, urging him to continue along the line. But he informed Irelewuyi of his plans to use Blue Number Plate for government official vehicles in Anambra and also notified him of the challenges AIRS was having with FRSC on payment for the production of number plates and getting tricycle (keke) riders to begin to obtain driver’s license.

“One of our challenges is that the money for the production of number plates is paid into a separate government account that requires a long process to pull out.Another challenge is in the area of getting the tricycle riders in Anambra State to register and obtain their driver’s license. We need your help in those areas,” Nzekwu continued.

Responding,  Irelewuyi promised to help in tackling the challenge.

“We will follow up the process of getting money out of the separate government accounts. That will not be a problem because my predecessor is still our zonal commander. We will also help in getting the riders to obtain driver’s license,” he assured.

It will be recalled that Irelewuyi assumed office in Anambra State few days ago.
