We’ll keep investing in basic education – Obiano

GOVERNOR of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to continuous investment in the basic education subsector of Anambra economy.

  Gov. Obiano gave the assurance in an address he delivered at a ceremony to mark the World Children’s Day 2021, which held under the theme: Effects of COVID-19 on Total Wellbeing of Children: The Way Forward at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, yesterday.

  Speaking further at the event, Gov. Obiano, who was represented by Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Kate Omenugha stated that apart from the theme of the day requiring all hands to be on deck in ensuring that students acquire all they lost during the COVID-19 era, the government is also encouraging parents to provide their wards with technological gadgets for efficient learning skills under the new normal.

  According to the governor, no amount of investment in this project will be too much, because it is another way of creating room for better tomorrow.

  The venue was filled to brim as pupils and students from Awka South Local Government Area trouped out en masse to join their counterparts across the nation in commemorating the annual ceremony that attracted all the ministries, agencies and stakeholders in the education sector.

  Igwebuike Grammar School, Awka, emerged overall best in secondary schools’ match past while Practicing School, Awka, emerged the overall best in primary schools.

  Other activities that added glamour to event include calisthenics.
