Children’s Day: Vivy school visits National Light

IN COMMEMORATION of the 2021 Children’s day, Pupils from Vivy Kids School, situated at Commissioners’ Quarters, Awka, were on excursion to Anambra Newspapers & Printing Corporation, publishers of National Light, Ka O Di Taa and SportslightXTRA Newspapers.

  On their arrival, the Head of Advert Department, Mrs Ngozi Agusiobo officially received them at the organisation’s event hall. Sequel to this, they were taken round the departments of the organisation.

  At the Editorial Department, Mr Emeka Chiaghanam of the section explained to them that the newsroom is the place where news and every other story they see in the newspaper are gathered, edited and proof-read before being sent to the Graphics Department for planning.

  In the Graphics Section, he explained to them that all those materials brought in from the newsroom are planned and sent for publication. From the Graphics, to the Circulation Department were he highlighted that the major job of the department is to distribute the published newspapers.

  They were also taken to other departments in the organisations, but their final pot of call was the Printing Hall where they were shown the machines used for the printing of the newspapers.

  Speaking with the Assistant Head Mistress, who also teaches French and Igbo Languages in some of the classes in the school, on why they chose a media house as their excursion venue considering the ages of the children, she said, “the world is going global, so we want them to see other areas of life and explore other professions apart from medicine and law, which they already know about. This will enable them make the right choices for their future careers. Though they are still tender, but I’m sure they have picked something from here which will stick with them probably for the rest of their lives.

  Mr Ubong Thompson, a Basic Four teacher said that while they teach them the theoretical aspects of printing and publishing, they have equally seen the practical aspect of the subject. “These I believe have given them a better understanding of the subject”.
