…Body describes gov as true believer in Igbo cause

THE leadership of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPoB) has declared that Gov. Willie Obiano has no hand in the arrest and extradition of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria.

The group made the declaration in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, yesterday.

Absolving the governor from complicity in Kanu’s ordeal as it had earlier alleged, IPoB not only blamed misinformation but also apologised to Obiano.

“We wish to absolve Gov. Willie Obiano from any involvement in the act contrary to our earlier statement based on preliminary investigation. Gov. Willie Obiano was found to be innocent after our intelligence unit conducted further investigations on him. We regret any harm our earlier statement might have caused him. We are responsible enough to admit our error any time any day. So, we apologise to Gov. Obiano,” the statement reads in part.

The group also described Gov. Obiano as a true and staunch believer in the Igbo cause.

“For the avoidance of doubt, though he does not work with or for us, IPoB is happy to note that Obiano is a firm believer in the wellbeing of Igbo, no matter political differences,” the statement reads.

Emphasising that it does not act on rumour or propaganda, the group also stated that former Senator, Representing Anambra Central, Victor Umeh, shares no blame in Kanu’s predicament.

“Senator Sir Victor Umeh is innocent of the accusations against him. The voice note going viral to suggest that we mentioned Victor Umeh is not true and our people should disregard that voice. But we warn that anybody involved in such abominable act should desist from such and repent because IPoB will get whoever is responsible for this cowardly act,” the statement reads further.
