Obaseki mourns death of Shagari’s wife

EDO State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has mourned the death of the widow of late President Shehu Shagari, Hajiya Hadiza Shehu Shagari

  Governor Obaseki described the death of Hajiya Hadiza in a statement as a great loss, noting that she was a woman with a noble character, compassionate, kind and helpful, adding that her wise counsel will be sorely missed

   The former first lady was confirmed dead in a statement by the family revealing that Hajiya HadizaShehu Shagari died at a hospital in Abuja, in the wee hours of Thursday, and was buried the same day in the evening according to the Islamic religion.

  Hajiya Hadiza ShehuS hagari died at the age of 80-years in the early hours of  August 12, 2021, at about 3:00 am.

  Nevertheless, the husband to the deceased was the first democratically elected Nigeria’s President in 1979.

  His regime was characterised as a dictatorial regime that came after decades of coups and military rules.

Civilian rule returned to Nigeria in 1999, ushering a renewed sense of hope that culminated with the first peaceful transition of power when Muhammadu Buhari, a former military head of state, became president in 2015.

  However, Governor Obaseki on behalf of the Edo people commiserates with Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tanbuwal, the governor of Sokoto State, the entire Shagari family as well as friends and associates of the family and prayed that God will grant them all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
