Ebonyi Commissioner charges women to invest in agriculture

COMMISSIONER for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Moses Nomeh has charged Ebonyi women to invest in agriculture through commercialisation of agricultural commodities.

  Chief Nomeh gave the charge during an advocacy visit by the Participatory Development Alternative (PDA) in conjunction with Smallholder Women Farmers, Ebonyi State Chapter in his office at Centenary City, Abakaliki.

  According to Chief Nomeh, the government of David Nweze Umahi through his office is now poised to changing the mindset of Ebonyi farmers to embark on extensive agricultural commercialisation in order to put food and money on the table of all farmers in the state.

  He applauded the effort of the Ebonyi State Governor in procuring and distributed over one billion, 14,000 agricultural input grants to Ebonyi farmers this year.

  He equally assured the women of state government support to enable them go back to commercial farming in other to boost food security in Ebonyi State.

  Also speaking, Arukwu Chidimma, the Executive Director, Participatory Development Alternative (PDA) and her counterpart, Ugochi Joseph of PDA appreciated the good works of Umahi for his leadership ingenuity and requested that micro input like trashers and power tillers should be made available for women to move faster into commercial farming.

  They promised to ensure that women in Ebonyi State are well sensitised to ensure they invest in agriculture in other to ensure that the mission of the state government towards agriculture are attained.
