UN awards Obiano Champion of Sustainable Development

… As Anambra launches mobile health insurance platform

In recognition of ongoing works in infrastructure, health, security and economic growth in Anambra State, United Nations (UN), Saturday, decorated Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano as Champion of Sustainable Development.

UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, who led a high powered team of International agencies including World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the European Union (EU), made the decoration at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, after monitoring ongoing projects at the Data Operations Centre at the Ministry of Health, Awka and Anambra State Health Insurance Agency(ASHIA), including a tour with the governor to Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri.

Mr Kallon while commending the governor for employing technology in the management of security, noted that the governor has been pushing for regional unity to advance development, adding that the United Nations is desirous of increased partnership with the state.

He further described the governor as “a champion who believes in bringing people together to make positive change…”

He observed that the international airport and the International Conference Center, among others are signature projects and urged the governor to ensure to work towards putting laws in place to protect the investments when he leaves office and assured that the UN will support the airport with Migration Data Systems, MIDAS technology.

He described the airport as a foundation for economic transportation which is critical for growth and urged ndi Anambra to join hands and protect the investments put in place by the present administration.

According to him, Anambra has gone ahead of many states because of Governor Obiano’s ingeniousness manifested as transparency, accountability and fiscal sustainability which birthed the Anambra Choose Your Project Initiative, advancements in agriculture, among others.

In his remarks, Governor Obiano stated that he and his team members are professionals who have been making numerous efforts to ensure sustainability.

He equally assured that by the grace of God, he would hand over to Prof Soludo, who he said had a better reach and capacity to “ shoot up the trajectory of today.”

The event also featured the launching of Anambra State Mobile Health Insurance Platform (MTHIP), where some members of the delegation and top government officials promised to buy premiums for ndi Anambra, including the Chief Field Officer “A” UNICEF, Mr Ibrahim Kahlil Conteh .
