We’ll consolidate Obiano’s cultural devp program – Ibezim

…Ihiala already ahead in cultural devp – Igwe Obidiegwu

SPECIAL Adviser to Gov. Willie Obiano on Indigenous Medicine and Herbal Practice and Deputy-Governorship Candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the forthcoming November 6 Anambra State gubernatorial election,  Onyekachukwu Ibezim said he and his principal, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo will consolidate present templates for cultural integration and development if voted into power.

Ibezim made the promise on Saturday, while speaking to newsmen shortly after a pontifical High Mass at St Martins of Tours Catholic Church, Ihiala, in Ihiala Local Government Area.

The religious session was held as part of activities marking the town’s 2021 Annual New Yam Festival.

According to Ibezim, their administration will continue to promote and identify with culture because it is not only a collective heritage that integrates communities into government’s development programmes but also creates room for inter-personal relations which itself nurtures harmony and stability.

Promising to give New Yam Festival a tourist attraction, if elected, Ibezim explained that no resources would be too much in celebrating yam as king of crops during harvest, since it has become a regular forum for annual get-together among kinsmen, friends, communities and neighbours.

Therefore, Ibezim called on communities to continue keying into Gov. Obiano’s agricultural programmes as sure bet for food sufficiency and security in the state, noting that no previous administration revived mechanised farming as much as the governor.

He used the opportunity to defray speculations of religious disharmony in the state, explaining that he not only attends Catholic Masses whenever it is necessary but also does not fetter his wife from practising her Catholic faith despite his being an active Anglican himself.

Speaking while declaring the ceremony open with kolanut breaking rites at Odoata Playground, Ihiala, traditional ruler and Oluoha XVII of Ihiala,Igwe Thomas Obidiegwu commended Gov. Obiano for bringing peace and stability in the 179 communities, including Ihiala.

The monarch also commended Gov. Obiano for carrying Ihiala along in scheme of affairs through appointment of deserving and qualified Ihiala sons and daughters into crucial positions in the state government and opening up the town and other communities with the governor’s grassroots-oriented choose-your-project development initiative.

Igwe Obidiegwu equally called on his subjects to reciprocate the governor’s goodwill to his kingdom by remaining law-abiding and rededicating to agriculture since Gov. Obiano has made farming not only attractive but also lucrative by bringing about a massive turnaround of the sector.

Oluoha XVII specifically called on the youth to shun peer pressure that exposes them to criminality and other social vices such as hard drug and cultism.

According to the monarch, he revved up strategies of stamping idleness and frustration out of young ones by mobilising affluent indigenes to float scholarship schemes in which intelligent but indigent students would be sponsored up to university level in any academic discipline of their choice, noting that any town which fails to invest in education of its youth ipso facto invests in a catastrophic future.

The monarch also said that the town has keyed into Gov. Obiano’s one man one skill programme by setting up skill acquisition scheme in which young ones desirous of gainful vocations would be trained and empowered with start-ups after training.

Highlight of the event was the traditional cutting of first yam in the kingdom by Igwe Obidiegwu, who was assisted by the entire members of Oluoha-in-council.

Payment of annual homages to Igwe Obidiegwu by ndi ichies, cabinet chiefs, villages, wards and groups featured during the colourful ceremony with masquerades and traditional dances also adding more glamour.

Gov. Obiano was represented at the event by a son of Ihiala and Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C Don Adinuba.
