We’ll eradicate flooding in Anambra – Soludo

FORMER Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA)’s flag bearer in the forthcoming November 6 Anambra governorship election, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has pledged to eradicate perennial flooding from the state if elected.

  Prof Soludo made the assertion while addressing a mammoth crowd of party loyalists and admirers who thronged Community Primary School Field, Mmiata Anam in Anambra West Local Government Area (LGA) for the flagging off ceremonies of APGA’s local government area campaign tours, yesterday.

  Promising to deploy his national and international contacts in attracting crucial ecofriendly investment in flood prone communities from federal government and global finance agencies, Soludo explained that with major threat in Anambra State as environment as captured in his manifesto, he would hold talks with federal government to start building structures along river banks in coastal areas beginning from Anambra East and West LGAs whose economic mainstay as farmers had continuously been badly damaged by seasonal flooding.

  Also promising to float an agricultural scheme in which over one million seedlings of improved crop varieties would be distributed to farmers every year, the APGA flag bearer said his administration would continue to work from where Gov. Willie Obiano would stop.

  He said he would do so by consolidating the governor’s sterling achievements in key sectors of Anambra economy.

  Earlier while presenting Soludo to party faithful in the two areas, Gov. Obiano urged ndi Anambra to come out and vote massively for APGA candidate so the party may record landslide victory again.

  Gov. Obiano also assured that Soludo as his successor would perform better than him if he continues along the party’s philosophy of transparency, accountability and human development, adding that his administration would not relent in providing dividend of democracy to the people, irrespective of his remaining number of days in office.

  Stakeholders from the two LGAs said Anambra East and West benefitted massive infrastructural development under APGA and Gov. Obiano.

  While Anambra State Commissioner for Lands, Bonaventure Enemali, said Gov. Obiano embarked on first-of-its-kind capacity development in the area, Commissioner for Works, Marcel Ifejiofor said he completed 20 roads in the area with 33 others ongoing at advanced stage to ensure completion this dry season.

  Transition Chairman of Anambra West LGA, Sylvester Orji said the area benefitted Umueze Anam-Mmiata Roads and Iyiora Road as well as bridges, Teachers Quarters through choose-your-project community development initiative.
