Bishop Ezeakofor dedicates St Kevin’s Catholic Church, Nimo



…Awards parishioners for contributions in church

The beautiful edifice of St Kelvin Catholic Church, Nimo in Njikoka LGA, Anambra State was recently dedicated to God as a holy place of worship by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor.

  The Holy Mass, which was officiated by Bishop Ezeokafor, was also graced by clergymen, including the parish priest of St. Kelvin’s Catholic Church, Rev Fr Mac Ben Okeke, the Priest in Residence, Very Rev Fr Edide, Reverend Sisters and many parishioners.

  The dedication featured anointing and blessing of the alter and  pillars of the church, litany of the saints, lighting of candle, blessing and sprinkling of holy water which attracted the presence of God the Father, God the Son and God in the church.

  In his homily, Bishop Ezeokafor called on Christians to always support the church as God’s work is for all, stressing the importance of sacrament of reconciliation and Eucharist.

  He said; “Try to be holy as this church is being dedicated to God. The church now is purely for God, not for other things. Be active both in church and in the community for God to recognise you.”

  He further thanked the parish for the magnificent church, even as he asked them to continue working in God’s vineyard.

  Speaking to newsmen, the Member, representing Njikoka Two Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Pete Ibida commended parishioners for their various contributions according to their capacities in the church, describing it as one of the best in Nigeria, just like other Catholic Parishes are in the community.

  Also speaking, Mr Francise Obidike described it as a very wonderful concept and a dream come through.

  “I expect all the parishioners to be more punctual as we work in the God’s veinyard. We are so grateful. To God be the glory and thanks to all that contributed immensely”.

In his welcome address, the First Vice Chairman of the parish and Chairman, Dedication Committee, Prof Sylvanus Anigbogu expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed towards the successful completion of the church edifice and dedication ceremony, adding that the dedication committee look forward for further financial support as other outstanding debts are being paid.

  In his word, “we thank our Lord Bishop, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor for the wonderful sermon he gave us and I also urge all our parishioners to be more consistent in serving God even as we have dedicated our church to God today, to be a holy place of worship”.

  The church, which was also described as one of the last, among others under construction in the community was said to have been completed in not less than 10 years of its construction

  Donators who played a major in the building of the Church as well as awardees during the dedication include Cyril Ajagu , Peter Atupulazi, Chukwudi Atakulu, Linus Okeke, John Obinyeluaku, Peter Afuba, George Ozodinobi, Chief Ike Agbim, Ichie Clement Okwuego, Dr George Okpagu etc.

  Other parishioners present were Sir Clems Ezedinachi, Mr Pius Aniekwe, Chief Felix Akosa , Prof and Mrs Anthony Eze, Dr and Mrs Christopher Okpala, among numerous others.
