Anambra grants pardon to 10 prisoners

ANAMBRA State Government has granted 10 prisoners from the state correctional services reprieve in commemoration of June 12, the nation’s Democracy Day.

  This was contained in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary, State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy,      Mrs. Nkolika O. Anumonye which stated that those involved included; Onyeka Obigwe from Umueri, who was convicted of being accomplice to kidnap, Somtochukwu Emmanuel from Enugwu-Ukwu with option fine of N15, 000, Anthony Onwuka from Abagana with option fine of N65, 000, Chukwuemeka Adiekwe from Ebenato, Nnewi South LGA with option fine of N50, 000.

  Others were; Michael Uba from Umukabia, Abia State with option fine of N50, 000, Chimuanya Oputa from Uruagu Nnewi with option fine of N50, 000; Edozie Agu from Otolo Nnewi-option fine of N70, 000, Samson Mmaduchim from Ezinifite, Nnewi South LGA- option fine of N80, 000; Odinaka Ibeaka of Umurata Akpukoa, Abia State- option fine of N30, 000 and Ojonnem Jacob of Imeme Iroma, Abia State with option fine of N200, 000 for stealing.

  According to the letter, the prisoners are confined in the federal correctional services in Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi in Anambra State and are serving various jail terms in the correctional services. “While some have few months and years to serve out their jail terms, others have option of fine to pay.

  “It is the desire of the state govt to grant reprieve/release to eligible convicts in various correctional services in the state to mark the Democracy day celebration”.
