Report of adhoc staff’s resignation, false – INEC

INDEPENDENT National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restated that it is determined to conduct November 6, 2021 governorship election in Anambra even as it has described the alleged mass INEC adhoc staff resignations as fake news.

  Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mohamood Yakubu, who dismissed the report said the 2021 Anambra State governorship election is holding in the next 12 days of 6th November, 2021.

  “Our deployment of non sensitive materials and training of personnel for the election have been concluded”.

 “The commission has successfully accomplished 12 out if the 14 activities listed in the timetable and schedule of activities for the election released in January, this year”.

 “The two outstanding activities are the last day of campaign at mid-night 4th November 2021 and Election Day, 6th November 2021”.

 “The safety and protection of voters, our personnel, accredited observers, the media and materials are cardinal consideration in any election. We have also been assured by the security agencies of a secure environment for the election”.

  Yakubu further assured that the commission is also working with the National Peace Committee under the leadership of respected former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar to bring all political parties and candidates for the election to commit to peace before, during and after the election.

  “While cautioning electorates to beware of fake news, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman Rotimi Oyekanmi said the report was not true. “We do not have any such information that INEC ad hoc staff are resigning. In any case, you cannot resign in a job that you are yet to get. You can only tender your resignation over a job that you are currently undertaking for various reasons”.

 Oyekanmi, who described the report as mischievous and intended to mislead the public said the election date was sacrosanct, stressing that the ad hoc staff have been trained and are receiving final briefing.
