INDEPENDENT National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented a certificate of return to Professor Charles Soludo as the Governor-elect of Anambra State and his running mate, Dr. Gilbert Onyekachukwu Ibezim as the deputy governor-elect.

Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra State, Nkwachukwu Orji performed the ceremony at the INEC headquarters, Awka Friday.

Speaking during the presentation, Orji appealed to Soludo to uphold good governance and democratic ideals in Anambra State,

This followed the victory of Soludo and his deputy who contested last Saturday’s Anambra 2021 governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

National Light recalled that Soludo emerged winner with 112,229 votes to defeat Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got 53,807 votes, and Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress who got 43,285 votes. Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressive Party polled 21,261 votes came fourth.

On his election as governor, Soludo had said the victory is that of Anambra people and also a divine journey whose time has come.

According to him, “for 12 years, I have consistently endured and focused on the mission. I have served the world, Nigeria, and it is now time to serve my own state. I am grateful to God, stakeholders and especially ordinary people of Anambra State. I feel humbled by this mandate which is overwhelming as it were despite the issues.”

Meanwhile, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just-concluded Anambra governorship election, Senator Andy Uba, has rejected the outcome of the exercise.

Uba rejected the governorship election results in a statement released on Thursday by the spokesperson of his Campaign Organization, Ambassador Jerry Ugokwe.

The APC candidate accused INEC, security operatives and the Anambra State Government of engaging in widespread electoral fraud and manipulation which saw him lose the poll.

Senator Uba stated that the election was characterised by widespread irregularities, intimidation and voter suppression to allow APGA and Soludo win the exercise.
