STANDARD Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has issued Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP), Certificates to 20 companies operating in Anambra State.
The event, which took place in Awka, saw two other companies’ MANCAP certificates revalidated.
Speaking to newsmen during the event, the Director General of SON, Mr. Farouk Salim, represented by the South East Regional Coordinator, Nwaoma Olujie explained that the certification of the companies is a testimonial that their products have satisfied the requirements of the applicable national standard; hence, they can produce world class products.
He encouraged the manufacturers to also focus on producing for export and assured that the organisation will continue to promote locally manufactured products and showcase them to the world, for patronage.
On his part, the Anambra State Coordinator of SON, Onipede Adeoye, while congratulating the certified companies on their new status in business sector, reminded them that with the MANCAP Certificate, their products are placed on quarterly surveillance quality audit to ensure continuity, sustainability and conformity to the standards, warning that if any of the companies is found wanting in the course of the factory inspections and quality audits, the certificate will be withdrawn.
It will be recalled that MANCAP is a policy put in place by the federal government with the objective of improving the quality of life of the citizens by ensuring that all locally manufactured products conform with relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards(NIS), before they are allowed into the open market.
In a vote of thanks, the Head, Electrical Department, Anambra State (SON), Awka, Virginus Omeje advised the manufacturers to always work towards product quality improvement in order to gain more trust and patronage of the consumers.
