JNC elects new exco

JOINT Negotiating Council (JNC), Anambra State Chapter, has elected new executives.

 The event which held at the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Secretariat witnessed the emergence of Comrades Edith Onwuka – Chairman, Alex Ebi – Vice Chairman, Uche Nwoye- Secretary,  Emma Onyejiaka -Treasurer and Eugene Anyakwo – Assistant Secretary.

  Inaugurating the officers, the Head of Service, Harry Udu, while congratulating the officers, advised them to follow the labour constitution strictly to prove themselves worthy of their positions. He used the forum to inform members that he is retiring from service and expressed the need to inaugurate the council for onward handover to the incoming Head of Service.

  He congratulated the newly elected officers from Trade Union side, saying that the council is purely designed to handle trade union problems and make recommendations. He urged members to be dedicated to their responsibility.

 Chairman of the council, who is also the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Office of the Head of Service, Ms Carol Njaka, in her address, urged the executives to strictly adhere to the constitution of the council in carrying out their obligations. She urged members to be focused and show strict compliance in their duty.

 In her acceptance speech, the chairman, Edith Onwuka stated that very soon, the new leadership of the council will unveil the blueprint for the implementation of the broad programmes that formed the basis for this mandate given to us.

 Comrade Onwuka dedicated the victory to all the members of the council, saying that the task of consolidating the lofty achievements of the past executives and lifting the council to the next level rests squarely on their shoulders and urged all hands to be on deck.

  She commended the invaluable contributions of the immediate past council chairman, Comrade Jibuike Benson, and those of his executives for not only making the council formidable but also nurturing it into an institution that is now highly respected.

  She thanked the Government of Anambra State, led by Chief Willie Obiano for the prompt payment of workers’ salary and other emoluments which includes bag of rice to workers for Christmas.

 According to the chairman: “I wish to assure you that the new leadership of the council will strive to further enhance the status of the council and move its banner to the next level.

 “I wish to extend our hands of fellowship to the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade union Congress and civil society groups and the media.  I want to pledge that we will continue to network with you and all men of goodwill to steer the state in the path of good governance.

 “It is also necessary to state that I regard the government and labour organisations as partners-in-progress.  This is because we are all pursuing the same noble goal of promoting the common good of the citizens. The new leadership of the congress will, therefore, work in harmony with the government and private sector employers to make Anambra workforce  a better place than we met it. In this partnership, commendations will be given and criticisms made when and where necessary..

  “My sincere appreciation to my husband,  Mr Joseph Onwuka and kids for their kind support and prayers for me in my quest for greatness. I must appreciate all the union leaders and members of each council for their unresolved support. My covenant is to pursue all the outstanding labour issues, especially the outstanding full implementation of minimum wage in Anambra State and other things that will better the lives of Anambra State workers.”
