THE Lagos State Government has said health officers will distribute food packs and supplements to 570 indigent pregnant women across the state through the Mother, Infant and Child initiative.

The Special Adviser to the Governor, Office of Civic Engagement, Aderemi Adebowale, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos on Monday.

Adebowale was quoted to have said this during a stakeholders’ meeting on MICH programme held in Alausa, Ikeja.

She said, “Health officers across the 57 local government areas and local council development areas will begin distributing food packs and supplements to indigent pregnant women at their various Primary Healthcare Centres under the state’s Mother, Infant and Child programme.

“The weekly distribution of food packs will commence in the second week of January 2022 and a total of 570 women across 57 LGAs and LCDAs will benefit from the launch phase of the programme.”

Adebowale added that the MICH initiative was organised to provide expectant mothers with nutritious food.

“This programme is a bold attempt to provide women with basic food items during pregnancy across Lagos State. This is to ensure that both the growing foetus and the expectant mothers have access to nutritious food needed for the healthy development of the baby’s brain and the well-being of the expectant mother,” she said.
