2023: North never endorsed Tinubu – Miyetti Allah

…Okorocha joins presidential race
…We’ve not zoned ticket to South – APC
…Group urges PDP to zone ticket to North

CONTRARY to online publications suggesting total northern backing, a pro-Northern political interest pressure group, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has denied reports that the North has endorsed a former Governor of Lagos State and National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Bola Tinubu’s aspiration for the ruling party’s 2023 presidential election ticket.

National Secretary of MACBAN, Baba Ngelzarma, issued the rebuttal in a release made available to newsmen in Abuja, yesterday.

Explaining that North alone cannot determine who wins APC’s nomination, nor who succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, Ngelzarma volunteered his group’s willingness to collaborate with other parts of Nigeria to ensure victory for only the most widely acceptable candidate.

“The attention of MACBAN headquarters has been drawn to stories in social and mainstream media claiming that we have endorsed the presidential aspiration of Sen. Ahmed Tinubu. We want to make it clear that the association has not endorsed any candidate. Those who endorsed Tinubu are doing so as individuals. MACBAN should not in any way be dragged into the politics of endorsement at this stage,” Ngelzarma said.

In a related development, one-time governor of Imo State and Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Rochas Okorocha has joined the race for the nomination ticket of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 presidential race.

Okorocha declared his candidacy in a letter read by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan during the upper chamber’s plenary, yesterday.

According to Okorocha, details of his ambition will be made public in a press conference scheduled for him, next week.

Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied zoning its 2023 presidential ticket to any part of southern Nigeria contrary to speculations going viral in social media.

A statement released from office of Chairman of Caretaker Committee of APC, Mai Mala Buni, the party said there was no iota of truth in the said report as it had not zoned its presidential ticket to any region.

According to the release, a decision on zoning of the party’s tickets will only be taken at the convention of the party coming up in February.

In another development, a political movement advocating under the aegis of Justice and Equity Group, yesterday, called on People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to zone the party’s presidential ticket to the North.

According to the group, only doing so will achieve the interest of fairness and justice for Nigeria.
