ARTICULATED lorries and other heavy duty vehicles have been banned from plying the Agulu Lake Bridge route of Awka-Ekwulobia road.

Anaocha Local Government authority in Anambr Sstate has issued a public notice barring heavy-duty and articulated vehicles from plying Agulu Lake Bridge due to incessant accidents on the bridge.

A statement issued yesterday by Transition Committee Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Patrick Estate Onyedum, said  motor vehicles covered  under the ban should take Nneogidi route of the road.

According to the statement, the ban was introduced to prevent recent incidents of fatal accidents along the bridge.

The notice also explained that heavy-duty vehicles like haulage trucks and petroleum tankers are motorists principally covered under the ban.

“This means that only cars and buses can now pass through the route. This move is to reduce the number of road crashes that have become regular on the Agulu Lake Bridge road. Consequently, any heavy-duty vehicle found disobeying this order or forcing its way through the barricade will be handed over to security agencies to face the full weights of the Law,” the statement reads.
