In Anambra, three prisoners receive state pardon

IN THE desire of the Anambra State Government to grant reprieve, release to eligible convicts according to section 212 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) in various Correctional Services in the state to mark the Independence Day celebration of October 1, 2021, Governor Willie Obiano has granted state pardon to three prisoners from the  Correctional Services in the state.

   This was contained in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary, Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, Anumonye Nkolika Olivia to the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba.

According to the letter, the three persons included; Emmanuel Nkem from Agbo, Delta State, whose offence was pick pocket, Chuka Ubadineke from Umudioka, Awka, Anambra State with an offence of assault and Ugwunwa Stanilous Ikenna, from Egbema Ozubulu, Anambra State, who was convicted of issuance of dishonored cheque.

The letter further stated that the three persons were confined in the federal correctional services in Awka and Onitsha, respectively. These were serving various jail terms in the correctional services and have few months to serve out their jail terms.
