In Ibadan, politicians pay tributes to Alao-Akala

ACTIVITIES marking the funeral ceremony of former governor of Oyo State, Chief Christopher Alao-Akala has commenced with a Day of Tributes in his honour.

The event, held in Ibadan, on Monday, which brought dignitaries from all walks of life irrespective of party affiliations was a reincarnation of deceased’s humane personality.

The ceremony tagged “A Day of tributes for Otunba Christopher Alao-Akala” was organised by Oyo State political class which consists of all major political gladiators in the state.

In his lecture entitled “Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala: The life time of  humane politician”, a retired  federal permanent secretary cum lecturer, National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Prof Tunji Olaopa stated that Nigeria does not need politicians who are simply not mere jobbers but those who are motivated  like the  late Chief Alao-Akala by his background and existential deprivation.

“Whatever motivates anyone running for office , the critical matter is that such a person must be ready to do whatever it takes to make life more abundantly richer than what exists before he or she gets there”, Prof Olaopa said.

Prof Olaopa opined that late former governor was a pragmatic leader who understood what it meant to be a politician that makes things happen

The lecturer informed that the deceased built an inter and intra ethnic confidence and negations that transcended party and ideological lines to fast forward the demands of good governance.

He described the late Chief Alao-Akala as a bridge builder, exemplary leader who played politics devoid of bitterness which has become the hallmark of Nigerian politics, urging politicians to prioritise the interest of their constituency and render selfless service to make life more abundant for the masses.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the chairman, Ogun State Television (OGTV), Mr. Tunde Oladunjoye stated that Otunba Alao-Akala was a leader from grassroots who enjoyed his peoples’ support.

In his tribute, Chairman, Oyo State All Progressive Congress (APC) ,Mr Issac Omodewu appealed to members of the party to use the demise of Chief Alao-Akala to bury their differences.

According to Omodewu, the unity of the party is paramount.

In his speech, Chairman, Planning Committee for Day of Tributes, Chief Wale Ohu, noted that the late Alao-Akala meant different things to different people.

Chief Ohu informed that annually, a Day of Political Unity will be held to honour the late former governor.

In their separate tributes to the deceased, Senator representing Oyo South, Kola Balogun and Senator representing Oyo North Abdulfatai Buhari paid glowing tributes to the former governor charging politicians to upload his ideals of good governance
