ANAMBRA State Government has said that it would partner traditional rulers and security agencies to end insecurity in the state.
Governor Willie Obiano disclosed this at a security meeting with traditional rulers and heads of security agencies which took place at the Conference Hall of the Government House, in Awka.
Governor Obiano, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, commended the traditional rulers and the heads of security agencies for their efforts to put a halt to security challenges bedeviling the state and remarked that the re-emergence of insecurity in Anambra State leaves much to be desired.
The governor assured that government would do everything humanly possible to address the ugly situation.
In his address of welcome, the Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council and Obi of Onitsha, Obi Alfred Achebe, appreciated the efforts of the Obiano administration in fighting crimes and criminality in the state and assured that the traditional rulers are ever ready to partner with government and security agencies to nip insecurity in the bud.
Obi Achebe also called for interstate collaboration with police, Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps( NSCDC), and the Navy to conquer the rising spate of insecurity in border towns like Ihiala, Ekwuluobia, among others.
In their separate speeches, some traditional rulers, Igwe Godwin Ezeilo of Nanka, Igwe Chudubem Iweka of Obosi, Igwe Ben Emeka of Umueri, and Igwe Peter Ezeamama of Enugwu Umuonyia, stressed the need to beef up security in the state.
Also, Igwe E.C Onyeneke of Ekwuluobia, Igwe Bob Oji of Ezinifite in Aguata, Igwe Ralph Ekpe of Enugwu Ukwu , Igwe Pius Omachonu of Olumbanasaa, among others, decried the recent tensed atmosphere in some communities.
They all promised that traditional rulers will help to promote peace, Justice and fairness and can serve as testimonial of their subjects.
Responding, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng, the Director, DSS, Mr Mike Obaje, Commanding Officer, Naval Post, Onitsha, Captain Osuobeni, Mrs Florence Ezeonye of NDLEA and Commandant of the state NSCDC, Mr Everistus Oyibo, also promised to use their different capacities as heads of security agencies to address the recent problems of insecurity in the state.
They appealed to the traditional rulers to assist them with information on how to fish out bad eggs in their communities to be prosecuted as, according to them, those culprits are not spirits but human beings, hence the need for their total support and collaboration to enable them succeed.
Special Adviser to Governor Obiano on Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Queen Vera Okonkwo was among dignitaries present at the meeting.
