Four staff hack bank to steal N874m

FOUR staff of a commercial bank, Olusegun Babasola, Abisola Ahmed, Uchechukwu Uma and Jude Alphaeus hacked its customer data  base to cart away N874 million.

  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said this while presenting its second witness in the ongoing trial against the four defendants, yesterday.

  According to EFCC, the defendants, along with one Omidiji Joseph, face a two-count charge for their roles in the hacking of the bank’s database and the cloning of more than 22 ATM cards, which were used to steal and divert N874 million from five corporate customers: American International Insurance Company Limited (AIICO), Interswitch, OVH Energy Marketing Ltd, Fidelity Bank Sinking Fund Account and FSL Securities Ltd.

  The fraud was allegedly carried out within three days. Upon arraignment, the defendants pleaded not guilty.
