...Says Gov’s recent policies, projects reposition Anambra

GOVERNOR of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has been commended as a leader who invests in tomorrow.

A former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, gave the commendation while speaking as guest lecturer of the maiden symposium of Chief Emeka Anyaoku Institute for International Studies and Diplomacy in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, with theme: Nigeria in the Comity of Nations, on Tuesday.

Describing Gov. Obiano as an innovative leader who took short time to come up with globally competitive policies and international best practices in public business, the former president also said the governor rediscovered Anambra with legacy projects that would continue to benefit the people.

According to Obasanjo, some of the projects with which Gov. Obiano rediscovered the state by raising good governance bars higher than his predecessors include Anambra International Airport, Umueri and International Convention Centre, Awka, as well as think-home development policies.

Obasanjo also used the lecture to express his confidence on Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s capacity to do well as the incoming governor of Anambra State.

Calling for concerted efforts in building the Nigerian nation, Obasanjo regretted that Nigeria is not as strong as it should be even though the country has all it takes to get it right in leading the African continent.

According to him, “the starting point of changing the narrative for Africa should be for Africans to tell their stories by themselves, but this entails that everyone has a role to play to be liberated.”

Obasanjo also stressed “the need for Nigerians to join hands in building a prosperous nation.”

Earlier while speaking, Gov. Obiano expressed delight for the privilege of receiving the former president’s commendation because Obasanjo has earned global reputation of say things point-blank.

The governor also credited massive support from ndi Anambra as the forte with which his administration succeeded in the last eight years.

On the significance of the Emeka Ayoku Symposium, Gov. Obiano expressed optimism that the lecture series will go a long way in immortalising the former Secretary-General of Commonwealth of Nations even while he lives.

Speaking in his welcome address, Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Charles Esimone recalled that the institute was inaugurated in October, 2017, to foster the learning of diplomacy and promotion of international peace.

In attendance were in-coming governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, past and present public office holders, traditional rulers, religious and community leaders among others.
