A YOUNG man identified as Honest Martin has been killed in an alleged cult war in Bayelsa State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred in Sagbama town, the headquarters of the Sagbama Local Government Area of the state, on Wednesday.

Sources said the murder of the deceased was sparked by a supremacy battle involving suspected members of the Bobos, Greenlanders and Icelanders cult groups.

The victim’s assailants invaded his home at about 1.45 a.m. and dragged him outside before cutting off his head and taking it away with them.

Sources also said the attackers of the 30-year-old Martin, thereafter, displayed his severed head on a stake around the area.

A source said, “We gathered he was shouting, but the guys slit his throat and cut off his head. When we woke up in the morning, we discovered the headless body of the victim.

“Upon further search for the missing head, we discovered it hung on a pole at the centre of the town. We were later told it is a clear message of war against their rival, to which the deceased also belonged.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Asinim Butswat, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident.

He said, “On the 09/03/2022 at about 0200 hours police operatives were informed that a suspected cultist, one Honest Martin, 30 years, was found outside his house at Sagbama community beheaded by the suspected rival cult group. Police operatives evacuated the corpse to St. Luke Mortuary, Sagbama. The investigation is ongoing.”
