GOVERNOR of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has assured that his administration will improve the justice sector by upgrading facilities in correctional centres across the state and devotion to welfare of inmates.
Prof. Soludo made the promise while addressing inmates and officers of Medium Security Custodial Centre, Aguata, Aguata Local Government Area, on Saturday.
According to the governor, his administration will also do this by dedicating to speedy dispensation of justice in Anambra State and provisional recreational amenities for inmates.
He stated this decried the fact that some inmates have spent years in the Correctional Center without trial and promised that his government will look into their cases
Gov. Soludo also promised to provide them with recreational facilities and to renovate the building within the next few weeks having discovered some challenges facing the facility during inspection, adding expressing the hope that they would return to the society a changed person so as to contribute to the growth and development of Anambra State.
Earlier while welcoming Soludo, Comptroller of Corrections, Nigerian Correctional Service, Anambra State Command, Pat Chukwuemeka, outlined some of the activities that will help improve the lives of the inmates.
Speaking on behalf of the inmates, Edwin Douglas thanked the governor for his visit saying that he has revived their hope and sense of belonging.
Gov. Soludo also presented some relief materials to them and promised to visit other correctional centres in the state within one week.
The governor was accompanied by his wife, Dr Nonye, Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Uche Okafor, Deputy Speaker, Paschal Agbodike, Secretary to State Government (SSG), Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu and Member Representing Aguata Constituency II in Anambra State House of Assembly, Okechukwu Okoye among others.
