AN early morning fire destroyed a section of the popular Apongbon Under Bridge Market in the Lagos Island area of Lagos, Lagos State, yesterday.

Motorists plying the route were trapped in a traffic gridlock it caused on the Eko Bridge.

“There’s currently fire incidence underneath Eko Bridge which has resulted to slow movement of motorists. Motorists who are yet to connect Eko Bridge are advised to use alternative routes such as Third-Mainland Bridge and Carter Bridge.   Chairman of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Alfred Atera, described the incident as a disaster, and called on the state government to financially assist traders that suffered losses.
