Lassa fever kills 123 in 23 states, infects 659 – NCDC

LASSA fever outbreak has killed 123 persons in 659 infections in 23 states of the federation since the year.

  Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, disclosed this during ministerial press briefing in Abuja, yesterday.

  “As of last week, Nigeria recorded 659 confirmed cases of Lassa fever over 23 states with a CFR of 18.7 per cent. Nigeria has also had almost 250, 000 COVID-19 cases and more than 3100 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country. And we’re keeping an eye on cerebrospinal meningitis outbreaks in some parts of the north and also investigating reports in Zamfara,” he said.

  Earlier while speaking during the briefing, NCDC’s Director of Hospital Services, Dr. Adebimpe Adebiyi, said no COVID-19 death has been recorded in over three weeks.

  She also said there was no surges in patients requiring oxygen during the period under review, adding that oxygen availability at the isolation wards were optimal.
