A’Court dismisses suit against Umahi, deputy

A COURT of Appeal sitting in Enugu, today, dismissed the suit filed by candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Ebonyi State in the 2019 governorship election, Sonni Ogbuoji and his running mate, f Justin Ogbodo Mbam, seeking to declare Gov. David Nweze Umahi and his deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe’s seats vacant on account of the governor’s defection from People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to APC.

  Ruling on the appeal, Justice A.O Belgore, dismissed the suit for being inconsistent with the constitution and extant laws of the country.

  It will be recalled that an Ebonyi State High Court sitting in Abakaliki, struck out the same suit and awarded N500,000 as damages against the plaintiff on Tuesday, February 28.
