Anambra kicks off multi-LGA waste evacuation in Onitsha, environ

GOVERNOR of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, Saturday, inspected the ongoing waste evacuation and drainage desilting exercise in Onitsha and environs.

 Addressing the people of the area, the governor assured that his desire is to make Anambra a more livable homeland and urged ndi Anambra to avoid dumping waste in drainage systems.

He equally stressed the need to end the Monday sit-at-home in the state, which according to him, has affected the lives of people negatively, even as he said he would work towards facilitating the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indegenous People of Biafra (IPoB).

 Anambra State Deputy Governor, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, during the supervision of clearing of wastes in Onitsha, charged the people to work with the Soludo administration in the move towards providing safe and healthy environment for the citizenry by keeping their surroundings clean and desist from dumping refuse in wrong places.

 In an interview, the President of Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu appreciated the state government for her intervention in the areas, and assured of stronger partnership with the state Ministry of Environment towards sustaining cleanliness in all the markets across the state.

 The exercise commenced from the Obiano Park, Upper Iweka area of Onitsha South, through Fegge, Ochanja Market and Ochanja Roundabout.

 Workers and residents of the areas were seen clearing and helping to ensure that the wastes are evacuated to ensure that the vision of Professor Chukwuma Soludo is achieved.

 The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Uche Okafor, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mayor Ernest Ezeajuhi , among others also joined the inspection.
