2023: PDP presidential ticket not thrown open – Ortom

GOVERNOR of Benue State and chairman of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Ticket Zoning Committee, Samuel Ortom has said that the committee did not throw the presidential ticket open contrary to reports making the rounds in some sections of the media.

  Ortom made the clarification during an interview, yesterday.

  According to him, the committee only referred the issue of zoning to National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.

  “It is wrong for anybody to say that we threw open the presidential ticket. We have to revert to NEC. It is wrong for the media to come up with a position, and the media were not members of the committee. During our discussion, the media were not there. After the meeting, I came out to brief the media, so it was surprising to see the headlines on newspapers, televisio

  Similarly, Wife of immediate past governor of Anambra State, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, has picked All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)’s expression of interest and nomination forms to vie for Anambra North senatorial district’s seat in the 2023 general election.

  A statement issued yesterday by Mrs. Obiano’s aide, Uloka Chuks, said the former governor’s wife was accompanied to APGA’s National Secretariat in Abuja, where she purchased her nomination forms, by party members, stakeholders, transition committee chairmen and numerous supporters.

  It will be recalled that Mrs. Obiano had in early March declared her intention to vie for the post, citing her concern for the people, especially rural women and children’s plight as basis her decision.

   Meanwhile,  Chief of Staff to former Gov. Willie Obiano, Mr. Primus Odili, has also declared his interest to run for Anambra North senatorial district election, under the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

  Odili, declared his interest before an assembly of traditional rulers, presidents- general, market leaders, youth leaders and APGA principal officers from the area.

  Speaking during the parley in Otuocha, Anambra East Local Government Area, Odili said he will focused more on agriculture and youth empowerment programmes if given the opportunity to represent.

   In a related development, All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed May 30 for the party’s presidential primary.

  A release issued by APC national secretariat, yesterday, also proposed dates for the governorship and House of Assembly as well as National Assembly primaries.
