Defection: Ayade, deputy know fate today

EMBATTLED Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, and his deputy will today know their fate in the suit seeking to oust them from office following their defection from People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC).

  The development arose after a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja yesterday adjourned its judgment on the suit until today.

  Halting his judgment, yesterday, Justice Taiwo Oladipupo Taiwo said the adjournment was to enable him consider implications of a fresh Court of Appeal judgment on Ayade’s defection and related matters.

  It will be recalled that an Enugu Division of Court of Appeal recently held that defection to APC by Ayade and his deputy did not constitute any known offence because it fell within their constitutional rights to freedom of association as enshrined under Section 40 of 1999 Constitution.
