Govt urges desilting of drains in Awka

ANAMBRA State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo has underscored the importance of desilting drainages while evacuating wastes and   maintaining the cleanliness in Awka.

  The governor who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim disclosed this on Sunday, while inspecting the ongoing evacuation of waste and desilting of drainages in Awka.

  Dr. Ibezim explained that the cleaning exercise was necessary considering the harmful effect of refuse on human health and urged ndi Anambra to stop disposal of refuse in unauthorised places.

  Dr. Ibezim, further said the exercise was part of the campaign promises of Professor Chukwuma Soludo and he is fulfilling its promise in providing a livable homeland and urban regeneration for ndi Anambra.

  He expressed that sustainable measures had been put in place by the government for proper disposal of refuse.

  Former Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Azubuike Ilo, described the project as a thing of joy because Awka, being the capital needs to be clean. He appreciated the government for embarking on the exercise and underscored the importance of a healthy environment.

  During the inspection, the deputy governor was joined by the Commissioner for Environment, Felix Odimegwu, among others.

  Areas inspected were, Juhel Pharmacy Junction, Queen Suites Hotel Junction, Iyiagu Estate, Club Road Junction by Isuaniocha Road, among others.
