Two terror suspects killed in Imo explosion

BARELY two weeks after refinery fire explosion rocked two communities Ohaji-Egbema Council area of Imo State, another tragedy struck in Addax Oil Company in Izombe, Oguta Council Area in the early hours of yesterday, killing two persons.

  Sources from Izombe said the blast, which took the residents unawares, occurred from an attempt by some terrorists to gain access into the facilities of the oil giant, and in the process got consumed when the explosion they had with them suddenly went off and killed them instantly.

  An indigene of the town, who pleaded for anonymity said the victims, prior to the incident, had repeatedly made efforts to blow up the facilities belonging to the oil multi-national corporation but were neutralised by security personnel manning the company.

  The PPRO – in the state – Mike Abattam (CSP) who confirmed the incident said that the anti-bomb unit of the state police command had been drafted to the scene of the incident.

  But many residents of community had since fled to neighbouring communities for safety because of the heavy presence of security personnel in the area.

  Similarly, about eight villagers were killed and a military base set ablaze when terrorist elements operating under aegis of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) attacked Kautikari village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, yesterday.

  A source from the village said insurgents raided Kautikari village in large numbers around 7:00 pm and started shooting sporadically.

  According to him, corpses of those who fell amid bullet rain were recovered from nearby bushes.

  “We have recovered eight dead bodies from the scene of the attack on our village (Kautikari) but many are still missing. The military base was completely burnt down and some residential homes equally torched,” he said.
