Victim Support Fund extends palliative to Imo COVID-19 victims

IMO State Government has received some food stuff as palliative from the Victim Support Fund (VSF), for onward distribution to Imo people who are negatively affected by the COVID-19 scourge.

  Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma lauded the initiator of the programme, General T.Y Danjuma (rtd) for his generosity and magnanimity in setting up the fund through food and other items of palliative which are provided for the vulnerable families across the country. 

  The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Prof. Placid Njoku promised that the items must be judiciously utilised as well as equitably distributed to the target areas.

  He made it clear that since the inception of the present administration in the state, they have made sure things get to the quarters it was meant for, adding that it is the shared prosperity government as the mantra of the Uzodinma led government in Imo State.

  Prof. Njoku averred that Uzodinma led administration is different from a government that cares for themselves alone as against caring for the governed. He advised the well to do in the state to emulate General T. Y Danjuma’s example and reach out to the vulnerable in society.

  Speaking at the event, the wife of the governor, Mrs. Chioma Uzodinma, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Group, Nkechi Ugwu commended the group for their kind gesture of donating food items and solar powered borehole the foundation built for Okuku Community in Owerri West of Imo State.

  Fielding questions from the newsmen, the chairperson of the fund, Akirolu Toyious said that the programme commenced in 2020 and Imo State was the 30th beneficiary state but not the last.

  He recalled that the fund was inaugurated in 2014 by the president as the first humanitarian response initiative to provide support for victims and other vulnerable in the country; especially the North-East.
